Customizable Before and After-School
Our Toddler and Preschool programs run from 9:00 am to 12.00 pm, Monday through Friday. In addition to our lunch program, parents can enroll their child in our afternoon enrichment programs from one to five days per week. This not only allows flexibility for families' schedules, but also enables children to get ready for full-day learning. If full daycare is needed, we have a Before and After Extended Care Program, offered at our Castlefield location.
LANGUAGE, LITERACY AND THE CREATIVE ARTS
Starting with the basics, we work towards building a comprehensive understanding of letters and phonetics. We use Jolly Phonics to develop phonemic awareness and letter recognition. Stories are introduced daily to develop a love of reading and to teach comprehension strategies such as, making connections, predicting, and other early strategies. These stories are used to write in our own personal journals as well. Our goal is that the students develop a love of reading and writing throughout this program.
NTEYLC is committed to providing your children with the best education possible. Through singing, poems, playing, and other activities, vocabulary is introduced and practices. Themes include; school space; nature and seasons; family and friends; numbers, colours, and shape; clothing; parts of the body; feelings; movement; and food. The goal is that all students will leave the program with some beginning terminology and phrases in the French language and a good understanding of basic commands.
This program is designed to help children become more aware of their senses and how we use them in space and time. Children will learn a lot about self regulation, relaxation, and develop their imaginations. Stories are used to engage their imagination and movement and art is used to help the children express themselves.
MATH AND SCIENCE
Our math and science program are designed to be an inquiry-based learning opportunity with hands on, experiential learning. This means that we build upon students’ natural curiosity while connecting those curiosities to the Ontario Curriculum expectations. This allows students to create a strong foundation of understanding using concrete materials. We cover math strands such as measurement, patterning, data management, sorting and classifying, and more. We explore topics such as sinking and floating, life cycle, and the five senses.
With wellness at the heart of our program, we offer Brain Fit® as an afternoon program. Brain Fit promotes self-regulation, self-expression, gross motor skills, positive self-esteem, and mindfulness. The teachers use breath work, yoga, dance and movement games to promote these skills. Meditation is also used to teach kids to calm their bodies and learn to self soothe.
